Village of Yesteryear
Educational Outreach Opportunities

Welcome and thank you for your interest in learning about traditional handcrafts through the Village of Yesteryear.  The resources on this website are provided to enhance the learning experience of visitors to the Village while visiting the NC State Fair and/or to provide support for heritage education throughout the year. 

The Village website features individual web pages on exhibiting craftsmen with the following information:
History of the craft;
Natural resources used in the creation of the craft;
History of the craftsman and of the craft in the family;
Awards and recognition received by craftsman;
Video clips of select crafts in process (to be recorded during the 2010 State Fair).

Resources currently available and correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study include the following:

oWho Am I? - for on-site or virtual visits.


Virtual Fieldtrips with multiple areas of focus (under construction):

A proposed resource for the future will be development of Living History Video Archives that will provide in depth interviews of specific craftsmen.  Archival video of the following craftsmen is proposed for 2010:

oNeal Thomas – Hand Split White Oak Basket Maker
oAmina Adelkader – Lace Maker
oDuane Raver – Wildlife Artist
