Vic Kirkman is a active member in the Village of Yesteryear for over 10 years .
He started woodcarving early as a  boy scout, but took up birdcarving seriously and much later in life in 1989.

Vic "retired" in 1993 to carve and teach his folk art full time to adults and youth  in Raleigh, NC. .He has studied under some of  the best wildfowl carvers in the world and moved up national ranks of decorative bird carving competition rapidly.  He still competes professionally at world class levels and has has won hundreds of awards at competition events around the U.S..

One of the honors he is most proud of, is his acceptance into the Village of Yesteryea.r. He says admiringly, "...the Village is a wonderful group of talented crafters from North Carolina and neighboring states." He was voted Craftsperson of the Year for 1007 by them; an honor he cherishes.

Vic exhibits with 90 or more of them every October in their building at the N.C. State Fair. He considers them an extended family and stays in touch year round as the Village site webmaster.
